Woolworths planking staff fired

Staff from Woolworths have been fired for planking after complaints from other staff at multiple sites across Australia. Woolworths has released a statement saying that the dismissals were not related to planking in an apparent effort to protect themselves from wrongful dismissal claims. Woolworths claims that the staff were fired for breaches to their occupational health and safety policies and not purely due to the fact that the staff were planking. The staff were seen planking in dangerous positions and were dismissed as a result. Other staff caught planking were let off with a warning as their behavior was deemed to be not so dangerous. Woolworths has warned staff to not endanger themselves and others in any way in the workplace.

Planking involves laying face down in strange and often dangerous positions to have your picture taken and has recently drawn the attention of the police. This is the latest in a string of planking incidents that have come about in the past few days. A planking attempt led to the death of a Brisbane resident earlier this month and another left a NSW resident in a coma.
